The Amstrad GX4000 — Amstrad’s Only Game Console

The Amstrad GX4000, released in 1990, was Amstrad’s sole dedicated game console — based on the CPC Plus hardware and aimed at competing with the NES and Master System. It arrived too late and with too few games, selling poorly before discontinuation within a year. Yet the GX4000 is today a sought-after collector’s piece precisely because of its failure: few units were sold, making complete-in-box examples genuinely rare. Its brief production run and limited cartridge library of around 30 titles make it one of the more achievable complete console collections for dedicated Amstrad enthusiasts.
