Family FR-102 — Nintendo NES Clone

The Family FR-102 was an unlicensed Nintendo NES-compatible clone — one of countless NES-compatible machines produced in Asia under various ”Family” brand names throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. Like other NES clones, the FR-102 used reverse-engineered hardware to play NES cartridges at a fraction of the cost of official Nintendo hardware. These machines were widespread in Eastern Europe, South America, and Asia, bringing the NES software library to millions of players who could not afford or access official Nintendo hardware. The ”Family” branding was a deliberate echo of Nintendo’s Famicom name, and these clones often came bundled with cartridges containing multiple games.
