The Super Game Boy, released in June 1994, was a cartridge that plugged into the Super Nintendo and allowed Game Boy games to be played on a television screen — bringing the portable Game Boy library to the living room with enhanced colour palettes and optional decorative borders. The Super Game Boy used the actual Game Boy hardware embedded within the cartridge, ensuring perfect compatibility with the entire Game Boy library. Some games included specific Super Game Boy enhancements — custom colour palettes, unique borders, and even additional sound effects — making them more complete experiences on the Super Nintendo than on the original monochrome Game Boy hardware.
