The Panasonic FZ-10 3DO — The Revised 3DO
The Panasonic FZ-10, released in 1994, was a revised version of the FZ-1 3DO — featuring a top-loading disc mechanism instead of the FZ-1’s front-loader, a lower price point, and a more compact design. The FZ-10 represented Panasonic’s attempt to extend the 3DO platform’s commercial life by addressing some of the FZ-1’s cost and design criticisms. Despite the improvements, the 3DO platform’s fundamental challenges — price, limited software library, and the impending arrival of Sony’s PlayStation — limited the FZ-10’s commercial success. Together with the FZ-1, the FZ-10 represents the complete arc of Panasonic’s 3DO involvement.
