The Philips Videopac G7400 — The Enhanced Videopac

The Philips Videopac G7400, released in 1983, was an enhanced successor to the G7000 featuring improved graphics capabilities through a background graphics chip that allowed more detailed and colourful display output while maintaining backward compatibility with the entire G7000 cartridge library. The G7400 was released at a difficult commercial moment — the 1983-1984 video game crash was devastating the market — and its limited software library of G7400-specific titles never reached the breadth needed to establish it as a distinct platform. Today the G7400 is considerably rarer than the G7000 and represents the Videopac platform at its most technically ambitious, making it a prized piece for collectors of European gaming hardware.
