Commodore Amiga CD32 games

Commodore Amiga CD32 Games — The Last Amiga Console

The Commodore Amiga CD32, released in September 1993, was the first 32-bit CD-ROM-based game console sold in Europe and Commodore’s final hardware product before the company’s April 1994 bankruptcy. Based on the Amiga 1200’s AGA chipset with a 14 MHz 68EC020 processor and a double-speed CD-ROM drive, the CD32 offered genuine 32-bit gaming capability at a competitive price of £299. Its AGA graphics — capable of 256,000 simultaneous colours — produced visuals significantly beyond the SNES and Mega Drive.

The CD32’s commercial potential was never realised. Commodore’s financial collapse just months after launch resulted in inadequate software support, poor marketing, and eventual bankruptcy before the console could establish itself. The software library is consequently small — perhaps 150 commercially released titles — but includes some genuine highlights: Alien Breed 3D, the Chaos Engine, Bubba ’n’ Stix, and many strong conversions of Amiga classics. The CD32’s rarity and its tragic history as the final product of a legendary company make it a particularly poignant collector’s piece.
