Mattel Aquarius Games — Games for the System That Failed Quickly

The Mattel Aquarius, released in June 1983 and discontinued just four months later in October 1983, had one of the shortest commercial lifespans of any home computer — yet despite its brief production run, a small library of cartridge games was developed for the platform. Mattel had positioned the Aquarius as a family computer and game machine, and the cartridge games reflected this dual purpose, covering arcade conversions and family-friendly titles.

Aquarius cartridge games are today among the rarest collectibles in retro gaming — produced in small quantities for a machine that sold poorly and was discontinued almost immediately, surviving examples in good condition are genuinely difficult to find. Any complete Aquarius game represents a significant collector’s piece, and the Computer Museum Ata’s collection of Aquarius software is a testament to the breadth of the curator’s dedication to documenting even the most obscure corners of home computing history.
