Sega SC-3000 Games — Sega’s First Home Computer
The Sega SC-3000, released simultaneously with the SG-1000 game console in Japan on 15 July 1983, was Sega’s entry into the home computer market — a Z80-based machine that could function as both a home computer and a game console. Using the same hardware base as the SG-1000, the SC-3000 added a full keyboard and cassette interface for computer applications, positioning it as a competitor to other Japanese home computers of the era including the MSX machines and Sharp MZ series.
The SC-3000 achieved its greatest success in Oceania — Australia and New Zealand — where it was distributed by John Sands and became one of the more popular home computers of the mid-1980s. Its dual game/computer nature gave it flexibility that dedicated computers or consoles lacked, and the SG-1000 cartridge compatibility gave it access to a growing games library. SC-3000 software is today relatively rare outside Australasia, making this collection particularly noteworthy.
