The Apple Power Macintosh G3/266 (Minitower) — The Professional G3
The Power Macintosh G3 Minitower configuration offered the G3’s excellent performance in a mid-tower case with three PCI expansion slots, providing the expandability required by professional users who needed to add graphics cards, SCSI accelerators, or other professional peripherals. The minitower form factor was popular with graphic designers, video editors, and other creative professionals who needed reliable, high-performance Mac capability combined with the flexibility to add specialised hardware as their needs evolved.
The G3 minitower was one of the last ”beige” Macs before Apple’s dramatic design transformation under Steve Jobs and Jony Ive. It represents the end of an era — capable, professional, and conservatively designed — before the Blue & White G3 and colourful iMac announced that Apple’s design ambitions had fundamentally and permanently changed. For collectors, the beige G3 minitower is a historically significant transitional machine: the last of the old Apple and the first of the new.
