The Compaq 2000 — Compaq’s Handheld

The Compaq 2000 was a handheld computing device from Compaq — produced as the PC giant explored portable computing beyond its successful laptop business. Compaq’s entry into the handheld market in the late 1990s reflected the growing recognition that computing was moving toward genuinely pocket-sized devices. Compaq’s manufacturing expertise and retail relationships gave its handheld products significant distribution, though the market would ultimately be dominated first by Palm and then by Compaq’s own iPAQ — one of the finest Windows PDAs ever made.
