The Ericsson MC218 — The Psion-Ericsson Handheld
The Ericsson MC218 was a handheld computer produced through a collaboration between Ericsson and Psion — essentially a rebranded Psion Series 5MX with Ericsson mobile connectivity. Running EPOC (the precursor to Symbian OS) on a 36 MHz ARM710T processor with a superb clamshell keyboard, the MC218 combined Psion’s legendary handheld computing software with Ericsson’s mobile communications expertise. The result was one of the finest handheld computers of the late 1990s — a machine that offered genuine productivity capability with mobile connectivity that pure Psion devices lacked.
