The Nokia MikroMikko 2 — Finland’s CP/M Business Computer
The Nokia MikroMikko 2 was the second generation of Nokia’s domestic computer line, designed specifically for the Finnish business market with CP/M compatibility that provided access to the wide range of business software available on Digital Research’s operating system. Building on the MikroMikko 1’s establishment of the brand, the MikroMikko 2 offered improved performance and the professional software compatibility that business users required, helping establish the MikroMikko as the standard computer in Finnish offices throughout the early-to-mid 1980s.
Finnish Office Computing Standard
The MikroMikko 2’s success in Finnish businesses was remarkable — Nokia leveraged its existing business relationships, domestic brand recognition, and Finnish-language software support to establish MikroMikko computers as the de facto standard in Finnish corporate computing. Government ministries, banks, and large corporations standardised on MikroMikko systems, giving Nokia a dominant market position in Finland that foreign competitors found difficult to challenge despite often offering technically superior or cheaper alternatives.
