The Nintendo Game & Watch Chef, released in September 1981, was a Wide Screen series model in which a chef must keep food items juggling in the air — catching items thrown from the left, juggling them, and keeping them from falling. The Wide Screen series improved on the original Silver and Gold series with a larger, more legible display, making the gameplay clearer and more engaging. Chef’s juggling mechanic — requiring quick reflexes and rhythm to maintain a growing number of airborne items — made it one of the more satisfying Game & Watch skill games, and the domestic kitchen theme gave it a distinctive charm among the more action-oriented titles in the series.
