Panasonic JR-200UP Games — Japanese Pre-MSX Software
The Panasonic JR-200UP was a Japanese home computer released in 1982 — Matsushita Electric’s own home computer design using a Motorola 6808 processor, produced before the company joined the MSX standard in 1983. As a pre-MSX machine with its own proprietary architecture, the JR-200 had a small but dedicated software library developed specifically for the Japanese domestic market. Its built-in BASIC interpreter and colour graphics made it a capable machine for the Japanese home computing enthusiast of the early 1980s.
JR-200 software is exceptionally rare outside Japan, reflecting the machine’s limited distribution and the small scale of its software ecosystem compared to the later MSX standard that would unify Japanese home computing. This collection represents a genuine rarity — software for a machine that few collectors outside Japan have encountered.
