The Commodore 202 — Commodore’s Calculator Heritage
The Commodore 202 was an electronic calculator from Commodore Business Machines — representing the company’s origins before it became famous for home computers. Jack Tramiel founded Commodore in 1954 as a typewriter repair business, evolving through office machines into calculators in the early 1970s. Commodore’s aggressive calculator pricing strategy and its 1976 acquisition of MOS Technology — makers of the 6502 processor — transformed it from a calculator company into a personal computer company. The Commodore 202 is a tangible piece of this transitional history, predating the Commodore PET by several years.
