The Nokia Communicator 9110 and 9210 — The Executive’s Computer-Phone
The Nokia Communicator series — from the original 9000 (1996) through the 9110 and 9210 — was Nokia’s flagship convergence product line, combining a full QWERTY keyboard computer with a mobile phone in a clamshell form factor. The 9110 ran GEOS and offered email, web browsing, fax, and full office applications; the 9210 upgraded to a colour display and Symbian OS, making it one of the first colour smartphones. These devices were standard equipment for mobile executives throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, and their combination of phone and computer capability in a single device directly anticipated the modern smartphone. The Communicator series represents Nokia at its most innovative.
