The Palm Zire 71 — Camera-Equipped Palm PDA
The Palm Zire 71, released in April 2003, was a significant step forward for Palm’s mid-range Zire line — adding a built-in 0.3 megapixel digital camera to a capable Palm OS device at a mainstream price point of $299. The sliding camera cover revealed a VGA camera at the back, making the Zire 71 one of the first Palm devices to integrate photography alongside its organiser functions. Running Palm OS 5.2.1 on a Texas Instruments OMAP processor at 144 MHz with a high-resolution 320×320 display, the Zire 71 offered solid performance for its era. The combination of camera, colour display, and MP3 playback capability made it one of the most multimedia-capable Palm devices of its generation.
