The IBM PS/2 Model P75 — IBM’s Most Powerful Portable
The IBM PS/2 Model P75 was IBM’s high-performance portable computer — a luggable machine that combined PS/2 architecture with powerful 486-class processing in a transportable enclosure. As part of IBM’s PS/2 portable family (which included the earlier P70), the P75 targeted corporate users who needed a machine that could be moved between locations without requiring a stationary desktop setup, while maintaining the full PS/2 feature set including MCA expansion capability.
The P-Series Portables
IBM’s PS/2 P-series represented the company’s luggable portable segment — self-contained machines combining computer and display in a carrying case format. Where the L40SX was a genuine laptop designed for battery operation on the move, the P-series portables were more powerful machines designed for use wherever a power outlet was available. This distinction reflected the different needs of IBM’s corporate customers: field engineers who needed powerful computing at remote sites rather than writers who needed computing in transit.
