The Nokia MikroMikko 3TT — Finland’s Tower PC
The Nokia MikroMikko 3TT was a tower configuration variant of the MikroMikko 3 — Nokia’s IBM PC AT-compatible desktop computer. The ”TT” designation indicated a tower format, providing greater expandability and a more professional appearance compared to the desktop configuration. As Nokia transitioned the MikroMikko line from proprietary architecture to IBM PC compatibility in the mid-to-late 1980s, the 3TT series served Finnish businesses that needed the performance and expansion capabilities of a tower workstation with the trusted MikroMikko brand and Nokia’s local service infrastructure.
The Tower Format in Finnish Offices
The tower PC format was increasingly preferred by Finnish businesses in the late 1980s — it provided more expansion slots for networking cards, additional storage, and specialist peripherals, and its vertical orientation saved desk space. The MikroMikko 3TT’s tower configuration made it suitable for use as both a workstation and a small server in the office networking environments that Nokia promoted through its Tiimi (Team) network system.
