The Nokia/Salora SPC2 MikroMikko 2 — Finland’s CP/M Computer

The Nokia/Salora SPC2, marketed as the MikroMikko 2, was a Finnish business computer released in 1982 using a Zilog Z80 processor and running CP/M — the dominant business operating system of the early 1980s. Produced through a collaboration between Nokia and the Finnish consumer electronics company Salora, the SPC2 represented the second generation of the MikroMikko line, targeting Finnish businesses that needed CP/M compatibility and access to the growing library of CP/M business software.

The Nokia-Salora Partnership

Nokia and Salora had a close relationship in the early 1980s Finnish electronics industry, with joint ventures and product collaborations across several product categories. The SPC2 emerged from this collaboration — combining Nokia’s computing expertise with Salora’s consumer electronics manufacturing and distribution capabilities. This partnership reflected the relatively small scale of the Finnish technology industry, where companies needed to collaborate to achieve the manufacturing volumes and market reach required for commercial success.

CP/M in Finnish Business

The MikroMikko 2’s CP/M compatibility gave Finnish businesses access to professional software including WordStar, dBASE, and accounting packages that had become standard tools in Western business computing. For Finnish companies that wanted to operate at the same technological level as their Western European counterparts, CP/M machines like the SPC2 provided a credible platform — made more attractive by the availability of Finnish-language software developed specifically for the domestic market.
