The Telmac TMC-600AS — The TMC-600 Variant

The Telmac TMC-600AS was a variant of the TMC-600, Finland’s only domestically designed and manufactured BASIC home computer. The ”AS” designation indicated a specific configuration or revision of the TMC-600 produced by Telercas Oy. Like the standard TMC-600, it used the RCA CDP1802A processor and Telercas SBASIC, and was produced in very limited numbers — making any surviving TMC-600 variant a significant rarity in Finnish computing history.

Finnish Computing Rarity

With the TMC-600 series produced in totals of only a few hundred units, any variant of this machine is an extraordinary collector’s piece. The Computer Museum Ata’s collection of both the standard TMC-600 and the TMC-600AS variant represents an unusually complete holding of Finland’s only home computer production — machines that most Finnish computing historians have never seen in person, let alone had the opportunity to examine in working condition.
