The Nintendo Game & Watch Mario Bros — The Two-Player Classic

The Nintendo Game & Watch Mario Bros, released in March 1983, was one of the most celebrated entries in the Game & Watch series — featuring two screens and simultaneous two-player gameplay where one player controlled Mario and the other Luigi, working together to catch falling bottles from a conveyor belt. The Game & Watch series, created by Gunpei Yokoi and launched in 1980, was Nintendo’s first major hardware success and the product that established the company’s handheld heritage before the Game Boy. The dual-screen Mario Bros model is widely credited as a direct inspiration for the Nintendo DS’s dual-screen design released over two decades later in 2004.
