The GamePark GP2X — Open Source Handheld Pioneer

The GamePark GP2X, released in South Korea in November 2005, was one of the most celebrated open source handheld gaming devices ever produced. Using dual ARM920T processors at 200 MHz with 64 MB of RAM and running Linux, the GP2X was fully open to homebrew development — its active community produced hundreds of emulators, games, and media applications. The GP2X could emulate virtually every 8-bit and 16-bit system, making it an extraordinarily versatile retro gaming device. Its open source philosophy influenced subsequent open handheld devices and remains a landmark in the history of community-driven gaming hardware.
