The Microsoft Xbox 360 S — The Slim Redesign

The Microsoft Xbox 360 S (Slim), released in June 2010, was a significant redesign of the Xbox 360 — substantially smaller and quieter than the original, with a new matte black finish, built-in Wi-Fi, and improved cooling that addressed the Red Ring of Death reliability issues that had plagued earlier models. The 360 S used a new 45nm chip combining the CPU and GPU on a single die, dramatically reducing heat output and power consumption. The redesign extended the Xbox 360’s commercial life significantly, making the platform more attractive as it entered its fifth and sixth years on the market.
