The Nintendo Super Famicom Jr — The Slim Super Famicom

The Nintendo Super Famicom Jr, released in Japan in October 1998, was a budget redesign of the Super Famicom — smaller, lighter, and priced lower than the original hardware as Nintendo prepared for the Nintendo 64 era. The Jr removed the eject button and multi-out video connector present on the original, simplifying the hardware for cost reduction. Released eight years after the original Super Famicom’s launch, the Jr extended the platform’s Japanese commercial life into the late 1990s as an affordable entry point for players who had missed the system’s peak era. The Super Famicom Jr was sold only in Japan, making it a distinctly Japanese hardware variant for collectors.
