The Sega Genesis Nomad — Full Genesis in Your Hands
The Sega Genesis Nomad, released in North America in October 1995, was a portable version of the Genesis console — playing full Genesis cartridges on a built-in 3.25-inch colour LCD screen. Unlike the Game Gear which had its own software library, the Nomad played the exact same cartridges as the home Genesis, giving it access to the entire Genesis library. It also featured a TV output for home use and a second controller port for multiplayer. Despite technical impressiveness, the Nomad’s battery life of approximately 3 hours and $180 price limited its sales. Today the Nomad is a highly sought-after collector’s piece — a technically remarkable device that arrived too late in the Genesis’s lifecycle.
