The Sony PlayStation 2 Slimline — The Redesigned PS2

The Sony PlayStation 2 Slimline, released in September 2004, was a dramatically redesigned version of the PS2 — approximately 75% smaller and lighter than the original, achieved through a new single-chip design combining the Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesizer. The Slimline maintained full software compatibility with the entire PS2 library while adding an Ethernet port as standard and reducing power consumption. Its compact form factor made it significantly more convenient than the original, and the reduced manufacturing cost enabled further price reductions that extended the PS2’s commercial life well into the PlayStation 3 era.
